What we do

Club Profile

The McGill Investment Club (“MIC”) is a multi-faceted club, open to all students in all faculties, with two main components: an Investment Management side and an Investment Banking side.

The club plays a major role in bridging the gap between the classroom and the financial workplace, and proudly supports the career preparation and development processes of McGill students. The MIC strives to help educate students about the financial markets via seminars, speaker-series, information sessions, trips, and forums on market-specific topics. It also takes part in stock-simulation competitions against other universities from across the country. Furthermore, the MIC runs and maintains a real stock portfolio and, in tandem with this portfolio, offers students the opportunity to be part of the club's stock analyst teams, who guide the buying and selling strategies, and thus are wholly implicated in the execution of the portfolio's strategy.

Ultimately, the MIC offers unprecedented opportunities for students to engage in real-world decisions. The MIC is thus the conduit of information and the access point for any and all students on campus whom are interested in learning more about the financial markets.

Seminars

In preparation for fall/summer recruiting and in an effort to bring students up to speed on some of the most exciting careers available to undergraduates, we will host the 5th Annual Investment Banking Seminars.

This year we will be offering a series of seminars to touch on various aspects of the career such as recruitment and day-to-day activities. Graduating students who have worked in the industry will be presenting the seminars and be available to answer questions.

Topics include: Introduction to I-banking, resume and cover letter workshop, and technical interview workshop.

Stock Analyst Program

MIC owns and manages a $10,000 portfolio. Decide where we will invest by participating in our Stock Analyst Program!

The SAP offers students the opportunity to discover investing and valuation methods using a hands-on approach. We group senior and junior analysts to ensure a positive learning experience. Participants will be given an overview of valuation techniques and other tools to assist in stock analysis.

Speakers

We are proud to offer a diverse array of seminars given by financial professionals, keen to share their experiences, insights and career tips. Many of our speakers are McGill graduates.

Membership

The MIC offers its activities and services on a membership basis. Students from all Faculties are invited to join the club at any time by registering, paying a membership fee of $25, and receiving a club card (effective for the academic year). Members who attend our events are required to show their card as a proof of membership.

MIC members are updated about our events on a weekly basis. They have automatic access to all of our events on campus, including seminars, guest speaker series, information sessions, as well as our Stock Analyst Program. Other events such as the New York Trip or stock simulations (Ottawa, Sherbrooke) require separate registration.

We invite everyone to join our mailing list, which is open to the public (including non-members and alumni).
